Affordable Housing

For decades, Utah has experienced unprecedented growth. This growth, soaring inflation, and high interest rates has caused the dream of home ownership to slip away from many.

To tackle these issues, it's crucial that government initiatives support, rather than hinder, solutions, avoiding regulations or procedures that could worsen the housing crisis. By implementing policies that promote job creation and eliminating unnecessary regulations that drive up construction costs, we can help Utah continue to be a place where people at all stages of life can afford to plan their futures.

Providing affordable housing for every resident of Utah is not merely a matter of sustaining economic growth; it's also about upholding the core values of our community and making sure the American dream is within reach for everyone who aspires to it.

  • Rising Home Prices vs. Stagnant Wages: It's undeniable that the disparity between rising home prices and stagnant wages poses a significant challenge for many Utahns. Increasing wage growth is the most effective way to allow new opportunities for new homeowners. By reducing burdensome regulations and promoting free-market principles, we can empower individuals to achieve homeownership through hard work and economic opportunity.

  • Lack of Affordable Homes: While the shortage of affordable housing is a concern, government subsidies and mandates are NOT the solution. Instead, we should focus on reducing barriers to new construction, streamlining the permitting process, and incentivizing developers to build more housing units. By unleashing the power of the free market, we can increase supply and drive down costs, making homeownership attainable for more Utahns without relying on taxpayer-funded programs.

  • Decrease in Building Permits: The decline in building permits is undoubtedly concerning, but I believe that government interference in the housing market is often counterproductive. Instead of imposing arbitrary mandates and restrictions, we should trust in the ingenuity of individuals and the private sector to innovate and address housing needs. By removing barriers to development and promoting market-driven solutions, we can reinvent Utah's housing market and ensure that every resident has access to safe, affordable housing.
